In connection with the reopening of the Maison de Pierre Loti (1850–1923) on June 10, 2025, the musée national de la Marine presents an exhibition focused on artworks created after the death of this emblematic Rochefort figure.
Introduction
The exhibition begins by examining those foundational objects of collective memory that carry shared images. Sculptures, medals, photographs, drawings, and postcards bear witness to an era and reflect a desire to pay tribute to a man whose career spanned both literature and naval service.
All works on display are drawn from the collections of the National Maritime Museum, and some have been restored specifically for this exhibition.
Exhibition Journey
The display continues through four thematic stops, integrated into the museum’s permanent route. Each stop revisits a collection object or a space within the monuments, analyzing it from the perspective of Julien Viaud, known by his pen name, Pierre Loti.
