Step into one of the greatest maritime adventures in history. Through a fully immersive exhibition combining storytelling, large-scale projections, and animated illustrations, the museum invites you to relive the first circumnavigation, 500 years after it unfolded.
A Groundbreaking Maritime Odyssey
In 1519, Ferdinand Magellan set sail from Seville with a fleet of five ships and 237 men. His goal: to reach the Spice Islands by sailing westward, navigating through an uncharted passage across the Americas. Three years later, a handful of exhausted survivors returned, having completed the very first voyage around the globe by sea. This landmark expedition is brought to life in a captivating exhibition that explores its geopolitical motivations, human consequences, and historical impact. The experience draws on the animated documentary series The Incredible Journey of Magellan (Arte / Camera Lucida).

A Scenographic Immersion into the Heart of the Journey
Guided by Antonio Pigafetta, the expedition’s chronicler, visitors are taken on an emotional and immersive journey. From political tensions and extreme living conditions to wonder and discovery—alongside violence and loss—the scenography unveils the many layers of this odyssey. Through vivid installations, the exhibition sheds light on lesser-known figures and explores 16th-century navigation, while encouraging reflection on the social and cultural legacies of global exploration.
Magellan: Inside the Exhibition Journey
Thanks to a spectacular scenography created by Camera Lucida, Lucid Realities, and artist Ugo Bienvenu, the exhibition offers an experience accessible to all audiences—from history buffs to curious young visitors. With over thirty audiovisual modules, animated maps, expert insights and a visually striking narrative, it reinterprets the first circumnavigation in light of today’s globalized world and evolving views on discovery and colonization.
