Set out in recently renovated spaces, its collections portray the technical, military, economic and social history of the Rochefort arsenal.

Highligths include the Dugay-Trouin's huge capstan and the Dauphin Royal, an instructional model measuring 4.80 metres in length.


Admission includes the hire of multilingual audio guides.

Ecole de Médecine navale

The world's oldest school of naval medicine is open to visitors in Rochefort, in a wing of the second naval hospital. It houses astonishing anatomical, botanical, zoological and ethnographic collections.

Visitors can admire a collection of rare scientific and maritime books, certain of wich are unique, indigenous costumes and artefacts, surgical instruments and a phrenology gallery. Guided tours every day.
