An exceptional location

Since 1958, the Musée National de la Marine has enjoyed an exceptional location inside Brest Castle. The city's oldest monument, it was listed as a Monument Historique in 1923. The museum welcomes visitors inside the castle and along its ramparts, which afford a breathtaking view of the roadstead and the Penfeld River.

The Castle is occupied since the Roman Empire. Transformed many times, the castle's history is linked to the sea, the story of a city, a region and a country.

Deep inside History

The museum's collection retraces 17 centuries of the history of Brest Dockyard and ocean-going fleets. Highlights of the many spectacular exhibits include masterpieces of ornamental carvings and naval construction.

Admission includes the hire of multilingual audio guides.
