A nationwide network of museums was formed in 1947, with the attachment of the "port museums." The Musée National de la Marine gained in scope, in Paris and in:
- Brest, in the castle (4th century)
- Port-Louis, in the citadel (16th and 17th centuries)
- Rochefort, in Hôtel de Cheusses (17th century) and the School of Naval Medicine
- Toulon, in the main entrance of the arsenal
